What some people are doing on the web

Facebook & twittering and twittervision and Flickr and Flickrvision and LinkedIn

We're going to consider the twin themes of identity and virtual communities and have a look at how we use (or don't use) "social networking sites". Have we got a working definition of what we consider a "social networking site" to be?

I'd also like you to look at a post by Professor Martin Weller about disaggregated communication. Has seeing how someone else uses online technologies helped you to consider what you might use them for? Does it help inform your understanding of some other uses you might not have considered?

Before you start writing blog posts suggesting that everyone who uses these applications is a sad loser please consider a couple of things. Firstly you need to support statements like that - this is still an academic course. And anything you write on your blog can be read anywhere in the world by anyone using the web. That clearly includes people using these applications.
